The Soil Frontier
The Soil Frontier is a single-player 3D-based educational game with Augmented Reality (AR) developed in conjunction with Swinburne Geo Edu, the experts in the field of civil engineering. It offers an entertaining, hands-on, and interactive environment for learning the basics of Prefabricated Vertical Drain (PVD).
This is what Thatchiayani is currently working on. Check out what she contributed to this project below;
Augmented Reality
One of the things that Thatchiayani worked on with the team is creating an AR for the game.
Our goal is to make the "The Soil Frontier" game, to be fun and interactable for civil engineering students to learn about the process of the Prefabricated Vertical Drains (PVD). The question was asked by the industry, "How can we make an educational game for the students without them getting bored?". This question was asked since engineering students would be reading up pages of words to understand a certain concept, so this way, students can learn about the PVDs in a more hands-on approach to experience what's like to be in a site with the PVD machine doing its job. Alas, Augmented Reality came into play.

As you can see in the picture, there are several UIs scattered around the screen and on the model. The team wanted to have the model of the PVD rig on a construction site where an animation of inserting a PVD is being shown. Furthermore, having buttons on each part explains its meaning about it. There are also sliders on the right side of the screen for the students to rotate and scale the model if they wish to not walk around the model. Thatchiayani's work is to have all of the above mentioned into the AR and have them exist in the 3D space.

SCREEN CAPTURES
SCREEN CAPTURES
These are the behind-the-scenes of working in Unity. There's another part where in order for the model to stay on the ground, Thatchiayani has to insert a placement script in there, so the player needs to scan until an indicator shows then click on the said indicator for the model to spawn on the ground.
